The work of artist Nava Lundy features the beauty of blurred beauty and an airy essence. With undefined shaped and loose lines, Nava takes her audience into a softer space, one full of warmth and glow.
Nava Lundy was born in New Jersey, and then relocated and raised in South Florida. Graduating from the University of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Lundy learned the fundamentals of impressionist painting while aiming to find her signature style. These days, her paintings are unmistakable. Each and every one has a charming agreeableness to them as they are all very easy on the eyes. Her softness shines through her artwork, making her brushstrokes strong but her definition light and loose.
Upon closer inspection of Lundy's artwork, you'll notice that they seemingly have a moving and translucent glow to them. In each piece, she begins with a metallic wash to give it life and shine. Nava then proceeds to use a myriad of tools such as palette knives, large and small brushes coupled with heavy strokes and neutral pigment to give her work a heavily romanticized look. She mainly focuses portraitism combined with figurative. However, Nava's work isn't her work because of the subject, but moreso, the style and technique of the painting. It is heavy and impressionistic, but still very light and beautiful.
Lundy plays with both shape and color, and loves to explore how they are connected yet still two entirely different entities. Nava's shapes are loose and her colors are more muted yet they play together perfectly.
Nava works with private collectors and galleries across the country as well as in Jerusalem, Isreal. One of her greatest and most noteworthy accomplishments though was donating 17 separate portraits of the victims of the Parkland shooting back in 2018. Nava's incredible talent as an artist is evident but her heart and compassion for people is even more astonishing.
"My goal is to have the viewer see the depth of color I see and to rethink the mundane by elevating it through the exploration of subtlety and turning up its volume at just the right points. I view my subject matter as a puzzle with each stroke building my paintings. I paint strong women with a sense of mystery behind their beauty. They are all more than just a pretty face and command intrigue and attention. They have a dreamy quality and a commanding presence but do so with elegance and femininity.
