John Stango

Urban Pop Impressionism
Born: 1958, Philadelphia, PA

John Stango is an Urban Pop Impressionist painter from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania who has a large cult following throughout the world. His combination of brushstrokes, textures and urban-yet-sophisticated cosmopolitan subject matters give John’s work more depth and style than traditional Pop Art or Street Art, setting him apart from other artists.

At the start of his career John used bodies as canvasses, creating a fashion t-shirt line in the early to mid 80’s that were featured in department stores such as Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s and Fiorucci. Before long, he progressed to using large-scale canvasses, showing his work in art galleries throughout the United States. The style he created during his clothing days helped his artwork to evolve into what is considered by many to be high fashion pop art.

Today, John’s unique style of painting gives him the ability to transform traditional still life, landscape or human forms into kaleidoscopes of colors and excitement; his style has become easily recognizable.

The Americana line, John’s signature work, appeals to a broad audience, with his American Flag series drawing popular attention. U.S. Presidents, politicians, law firms, large corporations, small businesses and proud Americans alike display these works in their homes, offices, board rooms and lobbies.

Appealing to all ages and demographics, one cannot dismiss the largest audience owning John’s art: the individuals searching for special, relevant and colorful paintings that put the exclamation point in their living environment. John’s work can also be seen in corporate collections, restaurants, department stores, celebrity homes, The Style Network, MTV, Major League ballparks and more. In sum, John’s work is a reflection of his personality -- vibrant colorful paintings that make people happy.

John is a committed philanthropist, using both his paintings and money generated from his paintings for charities around the world.
