Angela Dewar Nesbit

Some would say it's years of training and dedication at mastering her craft. Others would say it’s a mother’s touch and insight. For Nesbit’s ability to recreate the unique movements of children in her enchanting paintings is something that can only be explained by the years she’s spent parenting her own little ones. "I love children’s natural ability to express their passion for living", Nesbit says.

She effortlessly captures light, movement, and texture in a brief yet poignant blur of childhood. Although Nesbit’s energy is most easily identifiable in her child figures, she maintains the same style when approaching landscapes and still-lifes, using fewer strokes to retain more energy and emotion in her subjects, whether they are children, flowers, or hillsides. Settled amid thick layers of paint, her simple subjects wander softly in and out of the background.

Nesbit received a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and studied classical drawing and painting at Queens University and Spirit Square Center for the Arts in Charlotte, N.C. She has studied intensively with Andy Braitman of Charlotte, NC for several years. She has also studied with many nationally recognized artists such as Jove Wang, Cedric and Joanette Egeli, William Schultz, Kate Worm and Connie Winters.
